Sauté onions until they soften and become translucent. < id="zlrecipe-instruction-1" class="instruction" itemprop="recipeInstructions">Add garlic, and cook until a few pieces turn golden brown and caramelize. < id="zlrecipe-instruction-2" class="instruction" itemprop="recipeInstructions">Add cumin seed, dried chilli, ginger and lentils. Stir till everything is well blended. < id="zlrecipe-instruction-3" class="instruction" itemprop="recipeInstructions">Add 2 cups hot water and bring to a boil, then turn down to a simmer. Cook till water is almost completely absorbed into lentils. < id="zlrecipe-instruction-4" class="instruction" itemprop="recipeInstructions">Add 1 cup hot water, along with turmeric, curry powder, ground cumin and black pepper. Stir and cover. Simmer until lentils are cooked.
